A Year in the Making | The Story Behind Our Peppermint Candy Soap

A little patience, a lot of change, and one very special batch of soap.

Some things are worth waiting for, and our Peppermint Candy Cold Process Soap has quite a story behind it!

It all began in July 2025, when I discovered we would be moving from Washington to Georgia. After so many years in Snohomish, Washington, there was a lot to do, especially when it came to packing up my business and preparing for a move across the country.

Somewhere in the middle of all that packing, I figured if I had to ship expensive gallons of olive oil, I might as well do a nice, colorful infusion.

I had several gallons of olive oil and Himalayan rhubarb root sourced from AnneGeorges, a well-known botanical supplier in India. Himalayan rhubarb root is prized for the beautiful reddish-pink color it can impart to oils and handmade soap.

Instead of packing everything away separately, I decided to put those ingredients to good use and infuse the rhubarb root directly into the olive oil.

Little did I know just how long that infusion would end up sitting!

August 2025 | The Journey Begins

By August, our shipping containers were packed and on their way to Georgia, along with all my business supplies and those gallons of olive oil filled with Himalayan rhubarb root. We had no idea where to ship the containers because we hadn't even found a place to live yet!

After five days of driving across the country, we finally found a temporary (and rather expensive!) rental in Blue Ridge.

While we were busy moving, finding another home, and figuring out where The Posh Olive would settle into its new surroundings, that olive oil was quietly taking on its beautiful color.

November 2025 | A Change of Plans

By November, we had finally found our new home and business location in North Georgia and were able to retrieve our shipping containers.

Originally, I had hoped to make Peppermint Candy soap for the 2025 holiday season, but with everything involved in moving and setting up my supplies, it simply wasn't going to happen. Cold process soap needs weeks to properly cure, and there just wasn't enough time.

So rather than rush things, I decided to let the olive oil continue infusing until the following summer, giving me plenty of time to make soap for the 2026 holiday collection.

July 2026 | One Year Later

Fast-forward to July 2026.

It had been exactly one year since I first added the Himalayan rhubarb root to those gallons of olive oil. What began as a simple infusion had developed into the most beautiful, vibrant pinkish-red oil.

It was finally time to make soap!

I used a couple of gallons of that gorgeous botanical-infused olive oil to make several small batches of our Peppermint Candy Cold Process Soap.

Olive oil makes up 50% of my soap formula, and I wanted to achieve the richest natural color possible. So rather than dilute the infusion with plain olive oil, I used 100% Himalayan rhubarb-infused olive oil for the entire olive oil portion of my recipe.

And the result? Beautiful, rich reddish-burgundy bars, naturally colored without a drop of artificial dye!

The fragrance is everything I love about the holidays: sweet, minty candy with refreshing peppermint and spearmint, a little warmth from cinnamon, and a touch of citrus. It's such a nostalgic Christmas scent!

And the color? The finished bars developed a beautiful, rich reddish-burgundy shade, naturally colored by the Himalayan rhubarb infusion.

No artificial dyes, just the lovely color of a botanical that had been steeping in olive oil for an entire year.

Each batch was made from scratch using my blend of plant-based oils and butters, creating a rich, bubbly, creamy lather that feels almost lotion-like.

Once the soap was cut into bars, it was set aside to cure for several weeks, allowing the bars to become firm and ready for use.

November 2026 | We've Come Full Circle

And here we are, more than a year after that first infusion began.

From packing up my studio in Snohomish to settling into our new home in the North Georgia mountain town of Ellijay, these little bars have quite a story behind them!

Each bar is tucked into a muslin drawstring bag and finished with an eco-friendly paper label. I wanted to keep the packaging simple and natural, with a little old-fashioned Christmas charm.

I love that these bars have a little piece of our journey in them. What started as a simple project during one of the biggest changes in our lives has finally become something I get to share with all of you.
